mdlogix working with Volunteers of America Chesapeake to support returning citizens

mdlogix is partnering with Volunteers of America Chesapeake (VOAC) to deploy an innovative model to support previously incarcerated Baltimore City residents as they return to their communities. Through this partnership, BH-Works will be leveraged to support an existing VOA workforce development program, “VOA Works,” helping staff to screen and track the behavioral health issues of these vulnerable citizens. Additionally, program staff will use BH-Works to connect program participants to clinical care and social support services.

Located in VOAC’s Community Reentry Resource Center (CRRC) at 4900 East Monument Street in Baltimore, VOA Works prepares participants for employment by providing them a structured curriculum that addresses non-skills related barriers to employment (e.g., mental health, substance use issues), while providing vocational and occupational training, career exploration, and placement into internships, apprenticeships, and unsubsidized employment. Throughout the six-month program period, participants have access to curriculum-based classes on financial literacy, education literacy, anger management, and communication skills. They are provided cognitive behavioral therapy, substance use disorder group counseling, and case management services. VOA Works case managers address additional needs and barriers (e.g. driver’s license, expungement, identification, legal advocacy, housing).
