Kristen Johnson, former director of social work services with Dover Area School District in Pennsylvania. In that role, she led universal screening for grades 7 and 9 starting in 2018, and started to expand to grades 6-12.

A new model combining an innovative technology infrastructure–bhworks student mental health software system–with evidence-based treatment in collaboration with The Hope Institute and CAMS-Care, LLC.

The Institute specializes in outpatient, short-term crisis intervention and stabilization for individuals experiencing suicidal ideation. It utilizes the Collaborative Assessment and Management of Suicidality (CAMS) framework and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), two evidence-based practices that have been proven to effectively treat suicidal ideation.

Find out what federal and state funding is available for K-12 student mental and behavioral health programs. During this meeting, attendees heard from a SAMHSA program lead about GLS — suicide prevention grant and how Nevada Dept. of Education is fulfilling their Project AWARE grant. Other funding opportunities were discussed along with resources to get funding announcements, a state by state opioid settlement funding resource, and a website with grant writing tips and guidance for approaching foundations for support.

Multi-Tiered Systems of Support Referral Pathways

Infrastructure

bhworks supports students accessing appropriate school-based behavioral health services across a multi-tiered system by hosting technology workflow supporting school-based providers in universal screening, decision-based Tier 2 and 3 referrals, team-based roles, data collection on target screening results, intervention assessment and student outcome measurement.

Medicaid

If you are in a Medicaid expansion state, we can help you to use those dollars to cover more K-12 students outside of an IEP/IFSP and specifically for behavioral and mental health services. With bhworks, you can also make these funds more efficient by ensuring there is interoperability between schools, community mental health clinics, and all of the other health care providers (primary care, hospital systems, pharmacies, etc.).

Billing Integration

Connect Care Across Traditional Boundaries

bhworks can integrate with any system that can send or receive data in the HL7 FHIR format and can also handle custom formats. Various clients access bhworks via single sign-on within their own IT systems. Perfect for securely sharing data, including referrals.

EMR/EHR/SIS Integration/Interface

The bhworks platform includes standard APIs that integrate/interface with other Electronic Record Systems (ERS, Electronic Medical Records, Electronic Health Record, Student Information System, Health Information Exchanges, etc.) as well as with billing systems.

This allows clinical providers to directly access bhworks from other ERS using mdlogix single sign-on (SSO) standards (SAML, JWT, or Smart on FHIR). Standard mdlogix APIs are used to send demographic information (name, date of birth, etc.) from the ERS to bhworks so staff do not have to enter this information into bhworks.

Further, data collected within bhworks can also be sent back to the ERS further streamlining the data collection and reporting process for staff.

Billing

mdlogix partners with various billing vendors in multiple states to allow for Medicaid eligibility verification and billing functionality. bhworks allows local educational agencies (LEAs) the flexibility to do all of their documentation for general population students in a single location while also maintaining their partnerships with their preferred billing vendor.

Understand What’s Driving Outcomes

Real-Time Data & Reporting

bhworks outperforms similar software systems for data collection and reporting. Our platform is 100% web-based and optimized for use on any web-enabled device. Data can be collected from multiple sources including parents, students, and staff all on the same platform. All of this data is collected and then accessible through the bhworks data analytics and reporting system.

In addition to identifying factors that contribute to suicidality and other behavioral health problems, bhworks has been used to address health disparities in underserved communities and report program outcomes to public and private funders.

Communicate via Virtual Visits

Telehealth

Staff users can easily initiate virtual visits through bhworks, sending a link to the participant via text or email. The module is browser-based and does not require users to download additional software to host or join a telehealth session. During the session, care providers can take notes, obtain consent, perform screenings, or share educational materials with the participant. Once the meeting has concluded, authorized staff users can access an audit of the virtual visit, including who participated, the duration of the consult, and provider notes.

Attendee Referral

The bhworks Attendance Referral Module is intended for K-12 schools that want to record referrals for students needing additional support with school attendance. This module is available to supplement your existing student supports on bhworks. It can be used to document and manage referrals and outcomes for students struggling with chronic absenteeism as part of the school’s behavioral health referral processes.

Provide Wrap-Around Support

Referral & Support Tracking

Connect patients or clients to healthcare and social support resources with a searchable referral directory configured for your population’s needs. Staff can refer people to services directly in bhworks, searching for providers based on services offered, location, and availability. Care coordination tools identify tasks that need to be completed for each individual, alerting clinicians and care managers when a task is past due.

School Nurse Needs

bhworks currently supports school nurses working with students for mental health support and monitoring chronic conditions, including asthma, diabetes, food allergies, and seizures. Nurses can upload documents from primary care providers, obtain consent from parents for expanded care, and assess students’ mental health. Nurses can log interactions with students and parents and billable and non-billable services for students.

Plans of Care

bhworks allows users to record all individual Plans of Care, including identified symptoms/behaviors, problems, and goals for treatment and social emotional learning goals.

Electronic Consent

The software supports national standards for signing electronic medical records. By using an electronic consent via bhworks, you will reduce your documentation wait time from an average of 7 days to 1 or 2.

Evidence-Based Screening

Free up staff time by leveraging assessments that can be self-reported on a laptop, tablet, or mobile phone. Results are immediately scored, summarized, and securely sent to a designated clinician for review. Add measures in your current workflow and/or use our validated assessment which screens across 16 domains of mental health and psychosocial risk. bhworks also gives you access to a range of forms and assessments based on your market, including the PHQ-9 (depression), GAD-7 (anxiety), AUDIT-C (alcohol misuse), and C-SSRS (suicide risk). bhworks also offers M-CHAT™, a 2-stage parent-report screening tool to assess risk in toddlers for Autism Spectrum Disorders.
